Meet Prince George’s COMMUNITY FARMERS MARKET

Prince George’s COMMUNITY FARMERS MARKET is the owner of Prince George’s COMMUNITY FARMERS MARKET

Prince George’s Community Farmers Market has found a new home this year, after originating at Wilson Square beside the Prince George Courthouse a few years ago and a brief interlude at the Pine Centre Mall.

Now located in the Prince George Native Friendship Center parking lot, across the street from Books and Company, their tented gathering can’t be missed. This accommodation by the Native Friendship Center brings this market back into the downtown again. The Native Friendship Center also has a fully equipped food truck with an extensive menu, including breakfast and lunch items.

Many vendors in the market have gathered quite a following and sell out each week. Molly’s cinnamon buns never last long and there is always a queue for fresh bannock. Gwen at 4 Paws Pure offers an incredible selection of treats for your furry friends. The Bread Guy brings in sourdough bread each week and often has a lineup waiting for him to unload. Seasonally Jurgen and Maria have wonderful wild mushrooms – chanterelles and morels and pine mushrooms as well as lesser known varieties and produce from their greenhouse. Marie has all kinds of homemade breads and sweets as well as crochet and jams and canning. Of course everyone looks forward to the end of summer too, when Jovanka shows up with her incredibly sweet and delicious Coronation grapes. The big brown fresh eggs, too, are always in demand and there is a variety of meats and charcuterie as well. Ever have a “Walking Taco”? There is a huge array of artisanal craft items too, all made by the market vendors. Looking for a gift? Stop by and check out the market.

When asked what makes the market great, the Bread Guy says “It’s the people, you get to know the vendors and the people who attend regularly – you can stop and chat and share a snack with friends and you can get your groceries at the same time.”

With live buskers giving the market a festival feel, there is no doubt that this is the perfect way for anyone to spend their Saturday mornings.
