Meet the Prince George Regional Art Gallery Association

the Prince George Regional Art Gallery Association is the owner of Two Rivers Gallery

The Two Rivers Gallery was opened in 2000, but has origins which can be traced all the way back to 1949. Art has long been a part of Prince George’s heritage and culture, and in 1949 a new group known as the Prince George Art Society was formed. Its goal was to provide a place where local artists could connect with community members and to promote the arts in Prince George. The earliest members of the society gathered in each other’s homes for their regular meetings. Exhibits occurred in various locations throughout the community until the gallery’s first official, permanent space was opened in a donated house in 1969.

Two years later the Prince George Regional Art Gallery Association was established. The re-organized group began plans for a permanent art collection and a larger venue. In 1976 the gallery moved to a new, larger location where it would remain for over two decades.

Plans for a brand-new, dedicated facility began in the early 1990s. A feasibility study was conducted, building plans were created and fundraising was undertaken. Finally, in 2000, the new Two Rivers Gallery facility was opened to the public. The entire process was a community effort, and the 16,000 square foot space now houses hundreds of permanent pieces and maintains space for temporary exhibitions as well as public spaces for studio programs and facility rentals. The board and membership of the Prince George Regional Art Gallery Association continues to oversee its operation and make plans for the future of the gallery and the local arts culture.

Creative. Artistic. Original.

Two Rivers Gallery Shop is where design meets style in northern British Columbia. The gallery features an eclectic selection of works from acclaimed local artists, the best handmade artisans from across Canada and international contemporary designers. Two Rivers Gallery is operated by the Prince George Regional Art Gallery Association (PGRAGA), a non-profit organization made up of volunteers and art lovers. Through Two Rivers Gallery, the PGRAGA strives to encourage lifelong learning through the arts and to provide a venue for artists to share their work with the public. The gallery is home to a permanent collection of artwork and also features regular rotating exhibitions of contemporary Canadian art. As part of its commitment to lifelong learning and art education, Two Rivers Gallery offers a variety of studio classes and workshops for all ages, Sunday Open Studios, school programs, exhibition interpretation as well as an on-site “Makers Lab.” MakerLab 2RG is multi-disciplinary, creative community space with resources available for Open Make Drop-In each Thursday evening, including a wide variety of general purpose tools, silversmithing tools, electronics kit, sewing machine, 3D Doodlers and more.
