Meet Mojegan Sadeghian

Mojegan Sadeghian is the owner of Zaffron Cuisine Persian Cafe & Catering

When Mojegan Sadeghian first started sharing her Persian cooking skills with Prince George, many people had never even tried Persian food. When she moved to Prince George with her family in 2000, and long before opening Zaffron Cuisine Persian Café and Catering, Mojegan started offering cooking classes and catering services. Though people weren’t familiar with many of her Persian dishes, everyone loved it once they tried it. Growing her home based catering business was simply a matter of getting more people to try Persian food. In June 2011 she officially opened Zaffron Cuisine as a home based business. Eventually her business outgrew her home and it was time to look for a commercial space. August 2013 Zaffron Cuisine Persian Café was opened in its current location. Now, lovers of Persian food can enjoy it any time at the café. Mojegan still offers periodic cooking classes as well as catering for larger groups.

Zaffron is one of only a very small handful of Persian food restaurants in BC and in the north. In fact, says Mojegan, she often gets visitors from other parts of BC who stop in for a meal during their travels who can’t believe that there is a Persian restaurant in Prince George. “I’ve had customers tell me I should come and open up a Persian restaurant in their town!” says Mojegan.

In the early days of her catering business, Mojegan started taking part in some of the local farmer’s markets in order to help introduce Persian food to the people in Prince George. At first, says Mojegan, people were reluctant to try the unfamiliar dishes. These days when Zaffron shows up at the University Farmers Market, Mojegan proclaims, “we have a long line up of people who come to the market just for us!” In fact, they almost always run out of food before the day is over. It’s something that Mojegan is proud of. “We really take our food seriously,” she says. “For us it is not about business first, it is quality real food first.” Mojegan never compromise when it comes to cooking. “We don’t buy frozen meat, only fresh,” she notes, and everything they make is cooked from scratch. “Making tasty good food is our mission. We are really proud of our food and we stand behind its quality.”
