Meet Teresa Oliveira, General Manager
Teresa Oliveira has lived in places all over the world, including her home country of Portugal. She’s sampled cuisine from many different continents and cultures, so when she praises the cuisine at North 54, she knows what she’s talking about. Teresa is proud of the reputation that the restaurant has developed within the community of Prince George for its fine food and superb chef talent. She’s also proud that the restaurant has come to be regarded as a high-quality establishment in its own right with no affiliation to any chain. “Our customers are wonderful,” says Teresa, “they recognize us as an independent, locally owned business and have eagerly supported us.”
Teresa immigrated to Canada from Portugal and her first job in Canada was in a small restaurant. Over the years she worked in various hospitality industry jobs, gradually building her skills and taking some formal hospitality training along the way. Eventually, she landed in Prince George where she worked in several hotels and restaurants and later taught hospitality courses at CNC. She’s been with North 54 for a decade, and she loves everything about her job, especially the people that she serves each day, “Every day is a little bit different,” says Teresa, like the proverbial box of chocolates. “It’s always a surprise!” Teresa always takes the time to get to know her guests, and if you happen to come back for a subsequent visit, she’ll probably remember what kind of wine you prefer and what your favourite dessert is.
Outside of the restaurant, Teresa is a yoga fan and tries to work it into her busy schedule whenever she can. She’s also a nature-lover, especially when the weather is warm. She likes to spend time in her garden or simply soaking up the sun in summer. She also has a knack for design and devotes some of her free time to decorating her home. “I’m always moving things around,” she laughs.
